Between kits, neighborhood stories, and other new features, The Sims 4 received some great updates in 2021. EA closed out the year with scenarios, pre-made stories that hit the sweet spot between guided storylines and total freedom. A total of five storylines have been released so far, covering everything from breakup and break-even to toddlers and vacation drama. 6 Make money

A busy family in Henford-On-Bagley in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. A toddler talks to an adult cross stitcher, while another cow threader Sim cuddles a bunny in the foreground.
  • Step 1: Move to a new place and start without a single Simoleon in your bank account.

  • 2nd step: ???

  • Step 3: Become a millionaire!

Potential results

This was the very first storyline introduced and right off the bat, the most obvious way to earn money would be to get your Sim a job. But, there are so many ways to earn money in The Sims 4, so why not try a more interactive option to get the most out of this scenario.

Selling crafts is a great way to earn money, and the good news is that your Sim doesn’t need a huge house to do so. There are also plenty of ways to make this more difficult, such as limiting your Sim to selling a single craftable item. You can even go to Selvadorada and restore and sell artifacts. Eco-friendly Sims could also use the off-grid lot trait and challenge themselves to create a million Simoleons without negatively affecting the neighborhood’s ecological footprint.

Selling items directly is the easiest option, but also the least realistic. Selling items with market tables is more convenient, for example, selling at the San Myshuno flea market or in the plaza at the Selvadorada Cantina hotspot, El Árbol del Jaguar. Plopsy is another option that doesn’t require leaving the house, but it can take a while before the deals start rolling in. In short, exploring areas of the game that you tend to ignore is the best way to get the most out of this scenario.

5 Finding love after a breakup

Two Sims get romantic in a well-decorated garden, complete with statues, an abundance of flowers, and a beautiful fountain.

A messy breakup is even more complicated for Sims who live together. Is there something worth salvaging in this relationship or is it time to find new love? Sims will start the storyline after recently breaking up.

Potential results

  • A Sim is a soul mate with someone they broke up with

  • A Sim is best friends with someone they broke up with

  • A Sim is a kindred spirit with someone they have never broken up with

This scenario may require a little more story, but since you have to create a new family for each scenario, imagination is key. How did your Sims meet? How long had they been together and how long had they known each other before their relationship? Maybe there is drama between your Sims and some existing families in the neighborhood or maybe infidelity is causing their breakup?

Traits are another thing to consider here. How similar or different your Sims are can affect how well they get along or how easily they can spend time together. Three traits might not seem like a lot, but with over 50 traits in the game, the combinations are (almost) endless. The same goes for preferences. Are Sims with compatible preferences still compatible partners? Do opposites attract? It’s yours.

4 too many toddlers

Two toddlers are talking about dinosaurs in the park. It looks like one is trying to scare the other - and it works.

Can a busy Sim figure out how to give a group of toddlers all the attention and care they need to thrive?

Potential results

  • Toddlers reach level 3 in 4 skills

Keeping one toddler happy is a tall order, let alone three toddlers at once. Your caregiver Sim is going to be outnumbered here, so it’s up to you how difficult you want to make it.

If you have lots of toddler toys lying around (or if your Sims live in a big enough house), toddlers will pick up a lot of skills in their free time. Independent toddlers even develop skills faster without guidance, especially if screens are involved. Leave food on the counter for toddlers to grab and cushions for them to nap on, and they should be set for at least their basic needs.

Some skills will develop naturally over time, such as movement, potty and socializing, but thinking and imagining are built through more specific actions, so all your little ones can have strengths totally different. With each toddler toy developing a specific skill, you can always switch toys as needed to keep things fresh.

3 Perfectly well rounded

Two Sims are discussing...well, we're not sure what they're talking about. A Sim's thought bubble has the Perfectionist symbol, so maybe they're networking?

Some Sims are extremely impressive: they are experts in many fields, loved by others, and they follow their dreams shamelessly. It’s not easy to be this comprehensive, but it’s a path worth pursuing.

Potential results

  • Sim completes an Aspiration, has five friends, and is level ten in three skills

What aspiration do you want your Sim to complete? The Renaissance Sim aspiration is ideal for this scenario, as skill development makes up a handful of its aspiration milestones. Speaking of skills, which ones will your Sim be focusing on? Will he be a specialist or a jack-of-all-trades?

Next question: Where will your Sims make friends? If they have a career-related aspiration, making friends at work seems like a good fit. Neighbors are also an easy option for homebody Sims, but Sims 4 neighborhoods definitely vary in terms of population. Your Sims might try visiting places to make friends; for an added challenge, try having each of your five friends come to a different type of location: one in a living room, one in the gym, another in the museum, and so on. With so many locations in the game, your Sims definitely won’t. be hungry for choice.

2 surviving the holidays

A family celebrates Winter's Day with Father Winter and a present in The Sims 4. Two parents sit together on the sofa, while their two children open presents. One of the children talks to Father Winter.

Two Sims who hate each other are stuck living together due to a convoluted backstory involving gnomes and real estate scams, and the two are too stubborn to move on. In the spirit of the season will they find a way to mend their differences, or at least find a way to make it more bearable to spend the holidays? Sims will start the storyline as enemies with a grudge against each other

Potential results

  • Sims are friends without negative feelings

  • Sims are romantically involved as enemies with benefits

This scenario is somewhat similar to Finding Love After a Breakup, but the goal is for your Sims to either end up as friends or enemies with benefits. Either way, mischievous players have plenty of opportunities.

How unhappy do you want to make your Sims? Sharing a bed is forbidden for enemy Sims, but you can always replicate a rom-com and go the “one bed” route between enemies and perks. One of your Sims will have to take the couch until they get their way, but if they’re feeling courteous they can always rotate.

When it comes to feelings, Building your Sims’ relationship bars will be the best way to eliminate and avoid negative feelings. Grudges are a big deal, and a pleasant conversation or fun activity won’t take them away. But a friendly chat between exes certainly won’t hurt. Feelings can also be short-term or long-term. As expected, long-term feelings will be more difficult to achieve (or eliminate).

1 New year, new excitement

A Sim gazes wistfully up at the ceiling as confetti falls at the start of a new year

It’s never too late to start a new activity. After moving to a new place and making a New Year’s resolution to focus on developing marketable skills, can your Sim harness that momentum and continue making big changes for a more prosperous future?

Potential results

  • Have 25,000 Simoleons and reach level 5 in a skill

  • Reach level 3 of a career

Interestingly, the New Year’s resolution mechanism isn’t actually needed for this scenario. Still, adding a new holiday with the Make A Resolution tradition is an easy fix if you really want to amp up the New Year’s spirit.

Rightfully starting a new job is one of the resolutions included in the holiday lore, but depending on the job you choose, this scenario might not last long. Maybe that’s a good thing because it would be a great way to test out a career you don’t play often. However, you can always extend the experience by trying to get your Sim to create a new hobby at the same time, especially if that hobby is unrelated to their career.

Since both outcomes with this scenario can be achieved quite quickly, it also presents a great opportunity to try out game features that you don’t use often. Supernatural Sims come to mind with the added challenges and complications they entail.
